I’m not denying that the climate changes, UE,
In other words, you are denying that humans are changing the climate. That is what climate change denial is.
Well that’s what you say it is. But the world’s not just about you, is it.

These predictions all turned out to be wrong, didn’t they.

I am using the standard meaning of the phrase - common to both science and politics. And you think this is me making climate change about me.

What a complete f***ing idiot you are.
I’m not sure what good you think swearing brings to the discussion - or how you think it furthers your position?

You could, of course, just deal with the question.

These predictions all turned out to be wrong, didn’t they.

‘Why “ice-free” in the Arctic does not necessarily mean ice free’

https://nsidc.org/learn/ask-scientist/w ... ree-arctic

So why say “ice free” if it doesn’t actually mean “ice free”?

It’s just risible.

I come to Powerswitch to talk with people who are thoroughly familiar with the scientific basis of climate change, peak oil and collapse. I have no interest in the individual education of persons who do not grasp this.

If I was running this board you would be banned. If there was a block function for other users, I would have blocked you.

I am not interested in discussing anything with you.

I’m with you all the way on peak oil and collapse, but on climate change and Ukraine the consensus needs to be challenged.

I realise that you’re uncomfortable with that - but this isn’t ‘a forum’ unless everything is up for challenging debate.

So tell me what is wrong with this: “Wrong Again: 50 Years of Failed Eco-pocalyptic Predictions”

UE: “I come to Powerswitch to talk with people who are thoroughly familiar with the scientific basis of climate change, peak oil and collapse. I have no interest in the individual education of persons who do not grasp this.“

If you think you have the answers to my questions; why not just give the answers?

If you actually have the answers?

Your inability to address the question in a straightforward manner is very telling.

Just swearing at me and saying I should be banned is just capitulation - and suggests that you don’t actually have any answers: and are simply one member of an echo chamber and you dare not step outside.

I am not reading your posts. As soon as I see the post is by you, I do not even look at it. I will simply cut and paste this message.

If I ever get that insecure, I’ll go and shout at myself in the mirror and spare everyone else the embarrassment.

Is it a crime to disagree with the consensus on this forum?

I’m not actually a lone voice here either.

Why not just answer the question? It’s not rocket science.

The problem I have with climate alarmism is its total disassociation with my actual lived reality.

Take this, for example:

“Warmest May and spring on record in UK, Met Office figures show”

https://www.itv.com/news/2024-06-03/war ... gures-show

I’m a gardener. I grow vegetables. 2024 has been a disaster compared to the day after day sunshine of last year.

Its been cold, overcast and wet - but they’re telling me it’s actually the warmest on record?

May was very definitely not the warmest on record here.

It’s this total detachment of ‘official figures’ from actual lived reality that is so ridiculous.

Why reply at all, UE?

I suspect you actually are reading my posts.

Or you wouldn’t know when to respond.

Speaking as someone who has worked (at a very superficial level) on both flight control systems and atmospheric science whilst at the royal aerospace establishment I can assure you that climate change science is lot harder than rocket science.

It is ridiculous, that even simple metrics like the monthly and seasonal average temperatures are rejected. In the UK, both the metrological spring and the month of May were record warm. The hours of sunshine were below average and the daily maximums weren't high. BUT, the overcast weather meant the nighttime temperatures were high, high enough to pull the averages to record levels.

"My lived experience appears to contradict science, therefore I reject scientific reality because my lived experience is reality."

This sort of thinking is very common in our current society, and I guess most people assume it has always been that way and always will be, but I am not so sure this is true. There must be some degree of biological component to the denial of inconvenient truths, but I think there is also currently a very large cultural component. It is more nurture (or lack thereof) than nature.
We must deal with reality or it will deal with us.

The tendency to discount the future is a known phenomenon and is somewhat disconcerting. Especially at this point in our elections when we really need to be focusing on the energy cost of energy and the unpayable debt in most of the G7 etc

Is nobody apart from us taking this seriously?
