It does give us time to make more preparations and buy any required kit etc at a decent price as the panic wears off.

Yes, but, a lot of doom preparations are already more expensive and in short supply. I regularly check fleabay for ;
Packs of fifty Duracell D size.
Surplus wool blankets.
Bulk packs of household candles.
And other items. Not because I need any but I regard prices and availability as a sort of "doom index"
