Any old tyres?

Could be interesting and at last provide a way of dealing with the heaps of tyres around the UK, and the fire risk they pose.

A green start-up technology company has surprised scientists by producing a biofuel from old rubber tyres that can run turbo-charged diesel engines while reducing emissions by 30 per cent.

Not sure what they mean by 30% less emissions - does it mean that 70% of the carbon is burnt in the process of converting the tyre back into diesel? In which case the net emission of CO2 increases by 200%. Also I object to it being called renewable or green energy. From an emissions point of view it is better to dig a big hole and bury the tyres. Or build new houses out of them.

Why not write to them and ask?

Burying them? All these? There is also the long term pollution of ground water to consider.

Is this basically boiling off all the volatile components and then condensing them into liquid form ?

If so, not exactly rocket science eh ?

There needs to be a change in the way tyres are manufactured. The materials needs to be easier and cheaper to recycle.
