Well we need to be calling them on it.

Also we should be asking how the HELL we can afford ANOTHER BLOODY WAR.
Weird how the word 'austerity' isn't the same for the banks, arms industry or military.

I would have more respect if someone just came out and said, that the US is seeking to maintain and increase it strategic control of this region for all of the obvious reasons and that the bleaters over here would soon start complaining when their bloody lights went out and that the bottom line is that the maintenance of our system in the West is more important than any other consideration.

At least that would be telling it how it is. At least that would be honest.

The USA is not signed up to the International Criminal Court. Idiots.

We've allowed Syria to not sign the Agreement not to have chemical weapons. Idiots we are.

International borders are not upheld - Israel occupies the Syrian territory of the Golan Heights, with US support. Idiots all round.

And folk are surprised at the way things come to pass. To prevent wars one has to start early, getting things right at the right time.

You really think international agreements of this sort are anything other than window dressing when times were good and it was necessary to convince bleeding heart liberals like you that everything was nice and fair and played by Queensbury rules? There is only one rule; Power - who has it and who doesn't. The far left has always understood this and so has the far right.

You do make me laugh Biff.

That's quite tricky. However... I was only 23 miles out (you were better than 98% of them)! 8)

7 miles You were better than 100% of them. You're a Grade-A Damascus finder!
But I had just been studying a map of Syria so I don't think my score ought to count!

Syria resources:
Karel Lewy Levant Basin
Extending across a large section of the offshore areas of the eastern Mediterranean, the Levant Basin is at the center of recent energy exploration in the region. In a 2010 report, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) estimated that the Levant Basin has mean probable undiscovered2 oil resources of 1.7 billion barrels and, more significantly, mean probable undiscovered natural gas resources of 122 trillion cubic feet (Tcf). In context, the combined proved reserves of oil in the countries included in this report totaled just over 2.5 billion barrels as of January 2013—99.5 percent of which belong to Syria—and proved natural gas reserves of 18.2 Tcf. The USGS also estimated the mean probable undiscovered resources of natural gas liquids (NGL) at 3.1 billion barrels.

While the USGS estimates do not reflect the entirety of potential energy resources in the eastern Mediterranean region, the resources of the Levant Basin likely represent a large part of the overall resource base. The USGS estimate of 1.7 billion barrels of oil, if discovered, would increase the region's proved reserves by slightly less than 70 percent, while the 122 Tcf of natural gas represents more than six times the region's current proved reserves. An additional 1.7 billion barrels of oil in the Levant Basin would meet regional demand for roughly 20 years at current levels of consumption, while 122 Tcf of natural gas could meet current regional demand almost indefinitely. Nearly all the recent significant discoveries in the Levant Basin were of natural gas, and, while offshore exploration may eventually yield recoverable quantities of oil, to date there have not been any commercially-viable discoveries.

You haven't been following the news Lewis. This is just an offshoot of a region wide Sunni/Shia conflict. It is the fighter in the Shia minority that have release video of them eating the hearts of their enemies and imposing strict Islamic law in areas they control.

This is not a fairy story of down trodden angels just fighting for freedom.

Oh right, and there was me thinking it was a war between USA and Russia for their gas and oil which seems to have somehow ended up in Syria.

Yes, this is a really big deal. Two nos means I don't even think we'll come back for another vote in a few days.

Our MPs have done what many of us have been calling for, good for them. :) It'll be weird 'watching' a war that we're not partaking in.
