Virtual energy march

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

Virtual energy march

Post by biffvernon »

OMG! Pickens to march on DC! (Not IRL)
A march on the nation's capital to push for fundamental change -- it sounds like the 1960s.

That is, if protest marches back then were sponsored by the power company and the car salesmen -- and you never had to leave the rec room.

Oil bajillionaire T. Boone Pickens said Tuesday that he is organizing a March on Washington for Energy Independence to urge Congress to take action now to reduce the country's reliance on foreign oil. Pickens is urging supporters to "virtually" march by phone, fax or e-mail to their local congressperson's office in support of the Pickens Army and its goal of energy independence.

Organizers say they are looking for 1 million actions between April 1 and 3: phone calls, e-mails, faxed letters in support of the Pickens Plan of wind generated electricity, giant new transmission lines and natural gas-fueled fleets of trucks and buses.

Organizers of the event plan to use all the all-stars of social media -- Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and YouTube -- to recruit members to the Pickens Army and the million spam march.

Besides Pickens and his plan, the million-pieces-of-mail action is also sponsored by merchant power and transmission giant American Electric Power, car seller AutoNation and the American Wind Energy Association, among others.

"There has never been a virtual march of this magnitude and we are certain it will leave a strong impression on Washington," Pickens said. "The time to act is now."

While 1 million anything is a big number even in trillion-dollar-baby DC, Pickens supporters might also remember that the town was already treated to 2-million-plus people a couple of months ago IRL for the Inauguration. It might be less than impressed with the "boot-up" versus the "show-up" crowd.

On the other hand -- online means way less trash to pick up. While staying warm in your bathrobe.

Three quarter millionaire now. Apparently, according to the News the world's richest people have lost a quarter of their wealth over the last few months. Shame or careless!!

But looking beyond the headline, the billionaires have done less badly than the merely rich. And Pickens is still a billionaire. Now, how can we join the virtual march?
