Conservative party/opposition watch

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

I thought he be gone by now. Don't really see the advantage of keeping him, surely he's an electoral liability by now so replacing sooner rather than later would be better? Will there be a new leader in place by May local elections, could be a disaster if not. Turnout is always low for local elections and Johnson remaining will, at least depress Tory turnout.

They all know he has to go (apart from Nadine Dorries, who would continue to back him even if he was exposed for eating babies). None of them want to be the ones who actually write letters to Graham Brady though.

Sad fact is, getting rid of Boris won't change much.
They'll shuffle the pack, then claim that all the government's sins were his fault and carry on as normal....
The billions will still be sitting with their mates, ready to be shared out.....

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will get NI increases, energy increases, food increases etc...
We'll be told that they're busy 'levelling us up', and Grimsby will get a new bus stop.

It will change the likely outcome of the next general election. If they don't get rid of him, the tories will lose. If they do get rid of him then the result is anybody's guess.

Oh dear, the chancellor's policy on energy price rise is awful.

The £200 rebate is just a kind of forced loan onto everyone's bill - repaid over next five years. Just loading more debt into the economy.

The £150 council tax rebate is poorly targeted. Plenty of wealthy households in band D who don't 'need' this gift of public money. Plenty of poorer households who won't see it - students for example, those who already don't pay council, also a significant number of renters who don't pay their council tax directly so the land lord will just pocket it. Also, most of this rebate will be eaten up in council tax rises!

Nothing on VAT - despite these higher bills delivering a windfall to treasury. Nothing on windfall tax despite oil majors raking in £billions in additional profits, ExxonMobil's share price up 45% in 5 months.

...and BoE telegraphs inflation will exceed 7% and interest rate will continue to rise.

It's a gamble that the current situation is temporary. We all know it is permanent.

Completely agree , to come up with this policy you either have to be completely clueless or vindictive (maybe both) and I say that as a right wing Tory voter!!

Further thoughts, why £200 per electricity bill? Is it just for the political soundbite? Why not something proportionate like a penny or two per unit?

As for council tax, underlying rates are still rising so while this £150 give away will hold bill down this year (though many of poorest households miss out on this gift of public money) in 2023 we will experience a big jump as two years worth of increase hit home and no rebate. Could be ~£300 more than 2022?

Today seems to be a big news day, with a senior resignation in the no 10 team, and the NI first minister resigns and collapse of power sharing again, on top the minister calling for the Brexit border checks to be stopped.

Also, 3 more MPs declare no confidence in Boris, and Rishi Sunak's half baked energy bill measures, and BOE raises interest rates to 0.5%

Worth watching the inside pages to see what else the government tries to sneak through behind the chaos

Make that 4 Johnson aides resign (so far) today. Sunak fails to defend Johnson over Saville slur.

He is getting more and more like Trump in his refusal to go.

This is what happens when we usurp basic capitalism.
When Gordon Brown bailed out the criminal banks with the public purse, he started a self fulling prophecy that we are now witnessing. Financial assets have been inflated to extreme levels by currency debasement, coupled with importing deflation by the political gift of globalisation, and we have the current situation which is the same situation that we have had since Brown did his bailout. Falling real earnings, manipulated inflation data, and currency debasement.
Except the trick of manipulating inflation data, debasing the currency, bailing out too big to fail corporations, suddenly is not working when it comes to physical real world constraints of fossil fuels.

We all know where this ends.

Do we? I mean...we all know it ends very badly, but there's different flavours of bad.

Well I really do wish I knew where it is all going to end. If you know then please do
enlighten us and it would be very interesting to learn how you found out.

Big LOL.... :D
So it's all Gordon's fault....?
Somebody who hasn't been Chancellor since 2007 ?
Nothing to do with Brexit costs, COVID failure/corruption (£33+ billion), failed energy policy, HS2 overspend, etc. etc. ?
The Tories have been in power for over 10 years - even they don't have the face to use that lame excuse.

Go on then Nostradamus, where will it end ?
Where ever it is, BoJo, Gove, Hancock, Rees-Mogg, Cameron et al won't feel any hardship, that's for sure...

Loss of 4 senior staff in Downing Street looks like the endgame. Who is going to want to take over as head of communications knowing what is coming (the police investigation and full Sue Gray report)? I think he'll be gone by the end of next week.
