Aquind, proposed Anglo french inter-connector.

Post by adam2 »

The saga continues, with appeals and counter appeals.
This proposal is for a total capacity of 2GW. Consisting of two electrically independent circuits each of 1GW capacity.

I am surprised by the degree of controversy that this project has produced.

The problem is that they want to dig up a densely populated area to lay their cable. I would have thought that it would be cheaper and easier to keep the cable underwater for a bit longer and take it through Langstone Harbour to the east of Portsea Island. Taking it through Portsmouth Harbour is a no go as it would obstruct the entrance to one of the Royal Navy's largest bases and a cross channel port for a few weeks.
