For reasons not quite clear to me, I have been reading up a lot about interrogation techniques of late. Here is the one they use as standard in the USA: the Reid Technique.
A lot of people who aren't mentally robust and confident end up confessing to things they didn't do because it's basically designed to elicit confessions. Its first and most famous 'catch' turned out to be a massive miscarriage of justice! It's not used by bog-standard Police in the UK any more: we use something called "Peace" which is designed to get information rather than confessions.
Having watched a lot of these vids I would claim my Golden Silence and get a brief!
Finally, going to extremes, Here's a vid about what the SAS might have to cope with if their luck runs out. Yes it's all in Scots and with scandanavian subtitles but you get the idea.
I found all this very sobering: though I take the mick a bit in the Blog, if I had to object to something and it got ugly, how long would I last? How long would any of us last?
How long would I last?

I'd like to think I'd last till death if it was for something important. Something that mattered. I'd scream like a baby and lose all dignity to be sure. But, I hope I would last the course and not betray either other people nor my own beliefs.
But, we can never know till the time. So, all the above is just talk,.

There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you still get the same soaking.
you just have to get the resolve before hand on what you will do that way things will not vex you

Bushido is realised in the presence of death. In the case of having to choose between life and death you should choose death. There is no other reasoning. Move on with determination. To say dying without attaining ones aim is a foolish sacrifice of life is the flippant attitude of the sophisticates in the Kamigata area. In such a case it is difficult to make the right judgement. No one longs for death. We can speculate on whatever we like. But if we live without having attaining that aim, we are cowards. This is an important point and the correct path of the Samurai. When we calmly think of death morning and evening and are in despair, We are able to gain freedom in the way of the Samurai. Only then can we fulfil our duty without making mistakes in life.
For a samurai, a simple word is important no matter where he may be. By just one single word martial valor can be made apparent. In peaceful times words show one's bravery. In troubled times, too, one knows that by a single word his strength or cowardice can be seen. This single word is the flower of one's heart. It is not something said simply with one's mouth.
A warrior should not say something fainthearted even casually. He should set his mind to this beforehand. Even in trifling matters the depths of one's heart can be seen.
If you are slain in battle, you should be resolved to have your corpse facing the enemy.

Under the "Reid Technique", if I was innocent, I think I'd last forever. Assuming no physical torture, just this psychological stuff...I'm too pig-headed to cave into that.
I think the problem with this technique is that illicits false confessions from children and other people who are insecure, easily led or lack the capacity for critical thought. In other words, vulnerable people.
