First report on UK climate impact

Post by Aurora »

BBC News - 26/01/12

Climate change this century poses both risks and opportunities, according to the first comprehensive government assessment of its type.

The report warns that flooding, heatwaves and water shortages could become more likely.

But benefits could include new shipping lanes through the Arctic, fewer cold-related deaths in winter and higher crop yields.

The findings come in the Climate Change Risk Assessment.

This 2,000-page document has been produced by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Hang on a minute. My limited understanding is that climate change in the UK will lead to colder winters and hotter summers. Is this still the case or are we now to expect warmer winters?

2000 pages!!!!

 I believed the BBC the report is 48 pages the associated evidence report is (presumabily) the 2000 pages.

It might make yields of some crops greater, but it can spell disaster for others. And what about the plant related animal life that depends on particular temperature cycles? If the cycles don't occur, then we might get lower yields for that reason too.
