There has been a proliferation of barber shops in Australia these days. Nearly shaven heads and very big, but well trimmed, Ned Kelly style, beards.

Lots of Turkish barbers shops around here, and also something called 'Yellow Shop'. The one near the chippy over the road from me, i think might be run by Albanian gangsters. I keep seeing big saloons with blacked out windows outside and i was nearly mown down by an AMG C-Class with blacked out windows one time. Some guy was hanging out of the window speaking to me in some foreign language i don't speak. There are always dark skinned young men with beards out the front vaping and smoking, probably Camels or Gauloises.

Another barber shop I noticed opened and this in a small town. I have not noticed if the owners are Albanian gangsters or not. I would expect they are a bit of a tax wheeze probably to reduce taxes on an existing thriving business and to get some kind of false invoice scam.

A bike shop opened up recently and then closed, one presumes selling very few bikes to a town full of pick up trucks.

I'd say we have most of those listed. I am not sure about the tanning salon but we have all the others in this little Australian town. The hand car wash charges $360 for a 'full monty' for your car. I would rather take the day off and get on with it myself and listen to a few podcasts while I am doing it.

Old Bill will of course still be more interested in your tyre tread depth and speeding.

The body shop are now in administration, as has been forecast for a while. Shops to remain open for now.

Pity about the Body Shop but I can honestly say I never bought any of their products. I understand the founder, Anita Roddick? sold out a while ago and it probably fell into the hands of an investment fund that loaded it with debt and took all the cash as dividends.

They got bought-out by l'oreal a while back so I guess they lost their ethical customers. I've not been there for ages.

I bought my first ever cordless drill from Homebase in Cambridge in about 1994. I recall it being an OK shopping experience but I expect it fell through excess debt and was sucked dry by an investment fund.

Hilco bought Homebase in 2018 for £1 from Wesfarmers after a disastrous foray into the UK market for the Australian firm.
Wesfarmers had bought Homebase in 2016 and immediately sacked Homebase's senior management team.

Australian companies always seem to lose money in the UK. There was an attempt to set up a competitor to the ubiquitous Bunnings DIY stores over here that lasted a few years and was pricey but had a good garden section.

I support small local retailers mainly, one man band DIY shops are unbeatable for information on usability and reliability of components/equipment.
