New coronavirus in/from China

Re: New coronavirus in/from China
There are reports that some samples of the UK variant now have the mutation that gives the SA variant partial resistance to the current vaccines. This could well mean that the virus will not be completely stopped by any of the current vaccines, and new ones will be needed even before the roll out is completed. Modified vaccines are in development.
We are a long way from the end of this pandemic, those surplace vaccines may be redundant even before we give them away.

Re: New coronavirus in/from China
Whilst the richest, most medically advanced countries may be able to keep up, developing (and delivering?!) new vaccines inside 12 months - the vast majority of the global population simply won't have that option. This leads to large infected populations, producing yet more variants - covid ends up as globally endemic as flu or colds, but an order of magnitude or two more deadly?

Oh what a surprise, after months Covid nonsense you are now promoting anti-vaccination nonsense. Nothing if not consistent.

In a relatively non corrupt country, official stats from Norway show that for them, the Pfizer vaccine is a bigger threat to over 70's than Covid19.

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland ... -1.4277698Lockdown and social distancing is not needed to stop the spread of the virus, she said. People who recover are then “immune for life” after 10 days and deaths and illnesses could have been prevented by extra vitamins, she claimed.
People with underlying health conditions, such as cystic fibrosis, could freely engage in society during the pandemic after spending a few weeks building up their immunity in this manner, she went on.
Opposing vaccinations, Ms Cahill said “politicians and the media” are using Covid-19 “as a fear-mongering propaganda tool to try and take away rights from people and to make them more sick and to force vaccinations on us.”
Let's see who she shares a stage with, that's often a good idea.

David Icke and Piers Corbyn for starters, plus disqualified doctors, chiropodists and more. One claims Schweppes tonic water cures Covid.

I suppose that your above cartoon, LJ, was another example of the FACT based posting was it? Or is emotion getting the better of you?

The reason is simpleNew infections have fallen 44% in the US and 30% globally in the past 3 weeks and experts say vaccine is NOT the main driver because only 8% of Americans and 13% people worldwide have received their first dose
i) fewer PCR-test cycle thresholds being used worldwide leading to fewer false positives.
ii) herd immunity. Remember that?
I am guessing you numpties wont even know, let alone remember when the WHO changed its guidance on PCR test cycle thresholds. It was one day after Biden won

The article highlights:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/arti ... weeks.html
...The decline appears to be a global phenomenon, with new infections falling worldwide for the past three weeks in a row, the World Health Organization said Monday.....
.. the seven-day rolling average of new cases currently sits at 135,904, a 44 percent decline from the average three weeks weeks earlier, a DailyMail .Com analysis shows...
.. Public health experts believe that the decline in cases is likely a combination of a higher number of people who've had the virus than official counts suggest - meaning as many as 90 million people have antibodies against the virus..
..But these (vaccine) numbers are nowhere near the at least 65 percent required for herd immunity...
Experts say the decline in cases is likely due to other reasons instead, such as a higher number of people with natural immunity..
..When (natural immunity is) combined with the number of people who have been vaccinated...(that’s) a total of 121.8 million, roughly 1/3 of the U.S. population who may have some level of immunity against the virus. meaning the pathogen cannot spread as rapidly as it once did..”

Re: New coronavirus in/from China
The countries with high infection rates have all instigated tighter lockdowns in the last month, leading to falling reported numbers. There are (mostly third world) countries where there is very little testing, where rates of infection are little known as many cases and deaths go unreported.
The latest antibody testing in the UK of entirely random ly selected people shows 15 % with antibodies. However, several mutations in the virus in different parts of the world are likely to be able to reinfect people with antibodies to early strains. Without widespread vaccination, the world will never reach herd immunity, any more than it has to influenza. Although better, vaccines will need to be updated on at least annual basis to get the virus under control. The latest results from the Oxford vaccine indicates that even a single dose reduces infection rates by 67% and hospitalisations by much more, against early strains. Only Isreal has vaccinated enough people to show some signs of immunity kicking in.

Portugal now has the highest case and death rate per million, last year they locked down early and were relatively successful, now nearly half of all Covid deaths have been reported in January.

Re: New coronavirus in/from China
You can have all the lockdowns you want but if you don't close your borders at the same time then you will get constant new infections being introduced by international travellers. Not good for the economy but a decision has to be made with the inevitable trade offs.careful_eugene wrote: ↑04 Feb 2021, 09:01 Portugal now has the highest case and death rate per million, last year they locked down early and were relatively successful, now nearly half of all Covid deaths have been reported in January.
