The maple leaves have popped out of their buds today perhaps a week later then average. They look funny as they are only about an inch wide today. The sole remaining dairy farmer has turned the dry cows out to pasture also a week behind but all in all the spring is within its normal variation range. Black flies come next.

May was the hottest in the UK since records began about 100 years ago.
Breaking the record for the hottest month is arguably of greater significance than a single exceptionally hot day.

Record temperatures have been recorded in parts of japan, with dozens of lives lost to heatstroke.

Many parts of Japan are still flooded, and the high temperatures are hampering rescue efforts.
It is ironic that one of the worst affected places is Kyoto.

Monday was the hottest day on record for Waco as temperatures climbed to 114 degrees just after 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
“Officially and by two degrees, this is the hottest it has ever been in Waco, National Weather Service meteorologist Dennis Cain said.
Please keep in mind that a record was not just set for that particular date.
114 degrees was the hottest that it has been in the city of Waco ever.

Sorry vt, sarcasm aside, it's too late for a solution. We're fecked.
Indeed, a man I spoke to last night, who was talking about his motorway driving habits: I said, "You used to be a green". He said, "I still am and, as such, I know we're headed for disaster anyway. I'm going to enjoy it while I can."
