Those coastal Blue cities are also where the majority of the 46 million minorities live and they usually vote heavily Democrat.

This is why people did and SHOULD vote for Trump. Watch the 2 minute video he put out on the Sunday before the election. Play it a couple of times to take it all in. Then read Daniel Amerman's short analysis and then watch it again.

I don't know about you, but he makes it crystal clear to me and I agree fully with him!

That's if you believe what is said by trump. trump tells so many untruths that this could well be more. As for corrupt, I wonder if someone was looking in the mirror as well at others.

trump does everything for everything for trump. When he bought a tenanted tower block in New York, he hired a "relocation services" company to "rehouse" the tenants. The method was to break lights and elevators and make the place generally unpleasant to live in. Why should you believe the words of someone who shows such contempt for people in his way?

Judging by the majority of mainstream media coverage of the Trump Presidential victory, it would appear our liberal intelligentsia have yet to learn anything from this unfolding catastrophe. I say "unfolding" because Trump and, indeed, Brexit are, of course, merely parts of a wider ongoing process.

It should hardly need mentioning on here that underneath all of this is the End Of Growth. Everything else is a consequence of that. Trump is an effect not a cause. Until and unless there is a real and hard acknowledgment of what is coming down the line in terms of the limits to growth, climate change, ecological collapse and, beneath these three, because it is obviously the driver of all of them, massive global human population overshoot, nothing will change. Indeed it will get much worse.

Trump is the beginning of the kind of political sea-change coming to this world. We've seen nothing yet. But we will, in in our lifetimes. The only thing that can enable us to hold onto at least a semblance of our civilization in the storm to come is a combination of socialism and nationalism.

However, both the mainstream Left and the mainstream Right refuse to acknowledge at least one of those factors. Which means they will both be rejected by the innate, self-preservation instincts of the mass of people. Indeed, they are being rejected right now. The problem, though, is that the only political entities prepared to fill the vacuum left by the mainstream body-politic are those on the swivel-eyed loony-right of the political spectrum and, if that is all the mass of people have available to them to vote for as an alternative, than that is, indeed, what they will vote for. Hence, Trump.

And it will be the fault of the mainstream-liberal-Left who, in combination with a form of cultural fascism where everyone who does not agree with them is shut-down with shop-worn accusations of racism etc, do not have the moral courage to make the hard choices. Choices that will be oh-so-easy easy to make for the far-Right, because they have no morality at all.

Fully agree Little John.

so far, the Left, whether on facebook or even members on this forum, show a total lack of understanding of what is happening. They are doubling down on the liberal status quo politics which Greer has already written is dying.

its not looking good for the future of the Left.

I'm of the left and understand what's happening - I just didn't think the arithmetic would go Trump's way, and it nearly didn't. I thought the Democrats would have enough momentum to hold despite all the trends against them and the broader establishment.

I think almost any other random Democratic candidate (who wasn't despised by millions) could have beaten Trump (though maybe not Sanders). This election was more lost by Clinton (personally) than won by Trump.

I think it is relevant. My view is that the effect of technology in the employment market is being ignored. That is a substantial part of the exclusion of people from the jobs market. Reducing the total amount of trade through protectionism will not have any effect on those changes.

In fact resource depletion is not hitting that hard today although the effects of the peak in conventional oil production in the last decade still has financial effects.

The side effects of Obama care were relevant as well. Normally a republican would have won this presidential campaign. Clinton and Trump both had negative as well as positive effects.

Quite the rant there. Where was all that wisdom and passion before the Brexit vote or the Democrat convention?

I'm drawing a complete blank on a list of Hillary's positives. And on the Trump side the fact that he is not Hillary is the major thing that comes to mind with protection of the second amendment through Supreme court nominations about the only other thing on the list.

The images of Trump and O'Bama at the casa blanca were very telling.
Whatever he experienced in the oval office clearly had a big impact on Trump.
