You are absolutely correct. And you presume this was done out of ignorance, rather than to specifically mislead?

Statistics lie and liars use statistics and all that.
No, I'm specifically saying it wasn't said out if ignorance. I'm sure the deputy chief medical officer knows high school stats.
Having spent an entire career among PhDs with degrees throughout the natural sciences, I would NOT make that assumption.

I have no reason to think upper echelon medical folks would be any different, although I might allow more slack for those doing primarily research.

So, my mother is now out of quarantine and apparently fully recovered from covid. She felt a little under the weather for a few days, and had a bit of a cough. What a strange virus. Kills some healthy people in their 20s and 30s, but some other people have almost no symptoms, even though they are 81, taking all sorts of medicines including for heart conditions, have an enormous leg ulcer that hasn't healed for 2 years, and mid-stage dementia.

Yes, good news UE. I suppose one of the drugs that she was taking, or a combination, could have had an effect on the virus. We will probably never know.

If she was taking a blood thinner that could help as one of the problems has been a thickening of the blood which has caused strokes and organ failure.

Dexamethasone, a cheap and widely available steroid has been shown to reduce mortality for those on ventilators by a third.

Positive news at last.

Since my post has been deleted, I will repeat it here.

On your first point, I am glad to hear your elderly mother has recovered from Covid 19 since this virus is, indeed, dangerous to many, though by no means all, elderly people and those who are not elderly but who have significant co-morbidities, mostly of the cardiovascular system. But, again, even for those with comorbidities, the danger increases significantly with age.

On your second point. Bollocks.

The data is in now from many countries around the world and, even using the worst data available, we already know that this virus does NOT kill young people other than in such fantastically small numbers as to be regarded as little more than statistical noise. The vast and overwhelming majority of those people who die of this virus are the very elderly and those with significant comorbidities.

Those are the facts.

Your post, above, implies that young people are dying in numbers other than the fantastically tiny. In which case, the only possibilities are that you are either (a) unwittingly ignorant of the facts or (b) are deliberately pushing a false narrative due to being wantonly ignorant of the facts or due to being aware of them but having some other motive for pushing what you know to be a lie.

So, which is it?

LJ there is no point gnawing on UE.

This Sat more people will return to work. We will be able to see if any of the changes lead to much. According to the torygraph they are going to drop air arrivals quarantine:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/0 ... test-news/

because; lobbyists didn't like it, MPs want to swan about in France, the vast undocumented millions didn't do it anyway - see Leicester, Bradford etc.

Just keep a sense of humour everyone. Not easy if your life has been screwed over for no benefit.

So, they are dropping air arrival quarantine, but intend to keep the lock-down going inside the country on a city by city carousel basis lest any of us forget, in this brave new normal, we are now expected to wait for permission to go out and meet with other humans.

Rightho.

Meanwhile back in the states gun sales are at record highs with 3.9 million record checks performed last month. Store owners say people are using their $1200 checks to buy guns, jewelry, flat screen TVs and other electronics. Let's see I could buy a $500 rifle, a $500 flat screen TV and $200 of bling for HRH. Wait a minute !! She has her own $1200. She can buy her own bling. :)

BBC News last night was hinting that the problems in Leicester and a few other places with high number of South Asian residents might be due to cultural factors which have lead to an ignoring of the lockdown rules as well as the large numbers who work in the NHS.

$200 on ammunition for the gun?

It all keeps GDP up I suppose which is the important thing for Trump. Everything else seems to be going against him at the moment.

Actually I have enough guns and ammo for them and the TV is flat and relatively new and fits the room. The checks have been cashed and live in the gun safe for emergencies.
I think Trump is toast and Covid will have to be much reduced by November for him to have any chance at reelection.

In case of TEOTWAWKI, firearms could be useful. I see little merit in stocking large numbers of guns, a handgun, a rifle, and perhaps a shotgun for each member of the household plus a few spares should suffice.
As for ammunition, then IMHO you can never have too much.
A brief firefight with semi automatic weapons can easily use a few hundred rounds.
And remember that if you win a shootout, you will probably end up with the guns that belonged to the other lot.
If you loose, then you no longer need ammo or weapons.
There are many factors that determine which side will win in a shootout, but being able to expend ammunition freely certainly helps.
A dozen rounds a day for hunting is several thousand a year.

Reports from those who survived recent conflicts in Eastern Europe refer to the scarcity of ammo.

And no, I am not turning into RGR2 !
The more believable fictional accounts of TEOTWAWKI also refer to the shortage of ammunition.

I'll quote you on this on my thread about "what guns to buy" where it will fit the topic better.
