Rats!

We now have an additional problem. By an amazing coincidence, on the same night that a rat appeared in the Big Brother house on telly, we started to hear scratchings in our house too, under the floorboards.

We found some little paw prints in the bathroom, where there is a hole in the floor behind the bath for the pipes. So we reckoned it had somehow got in (how? I haven't a clue) and got under the floorboards upstairs.

Anyway, I bought a mechanical trap from B&Q on Friday, and set it with a rolo, which they like apparently. No joy yet. Also had the Council out, who have set some poisoned bait in the back garden, which I have to have checked this week.

Not heard any scratchings the past couple of days, though - wondering if the rat has somehow escaped. It had been scratching around all the trunking conveying pipes down from the upstairs, trying to get down - we thought maybe it was getting hungry.

It's been very quiet - it's either gone or it has died under the floorboards. If it is the latter, we are in for a smelly episode.

We didn't catch the rat, we heard it under the floorboards for a couple of weeks, on and off - and then the noise stopped.

We had nothing more, but several very large flies with big red eyes appeared in our bathroom, which is where there is a hole in the floorboards where the rat would come up. So we thought that maybe the rat had died.

We suspect that the rat may have got into next door, or another house on the row, and was living under the floorboards between houses, or living up in the lofts somewhere.

Anyway, since then I've had a new log store built in the corner of the back yard which used to have the big wooden gates where the rat got into the garden in the first place. The gates have been replaced by a brick wall, so hopefully that's the last ratty experience we'll be having!

I've ordered a pistol crossbow for rat/pigeon/maurauder hunting in any case, so they had better not reappear.

Rats mmmmmm dont like em defo kill em for me

If it was me I'd get a Terrier. My Lakie would never allow a rat in the garden or house rofl - by the time you'd see the rat it would be dead if it did not escape.

Here is the ultimate rat slayer

He dont shed no hair at all, he's hypoallergenic, loves kids and people, is a guard dog, will keep his area clean, eats little, easy peasy to train, but is a natural born KILLER!!!!
