I?m rapidly coming to the conclusion that climate is far too complicated for lay people to contribute meaningfully to the scientific debate. Seriously, climate is the most complex subject going, right up there with searching for a grand unification theory for the four fundamental forces. Even "real" climate scientists only have a half decent understanding of their little bit.
Basically global warming or cooling doesn't matter a jot. We must reduce our profligate wasting of the earth's fuel resources and we must control the earth's human population because in the future, possibly near future, we won't be able to feed the current population. Climate Change is a distracting irrelevance. Resource depletion is what matters. Climate Change arguments enable the proponents of BAU to push their spurious claims and prevent any reduction in the rate of resource wastage.
Seriously the panic in the normally unflappable scientific community has been ramping up big styleeee in the last 12 months or so, and to be honest - I'm a great believer in the precautionary principle - so I'm listening to the majority opinion from the scientific community on this but also open to hearing from the other side - I just won't be putting all of my eggs in their basket.
Three voices of reason that play a sick squash court ping-pong in my head, drive the emotions to spin around. What to do? Push-ups, polytunnels and time with friends... and vent worries on powerswitch. Very nice to know that there are others that invest so much effort in such considerations - how about a national get-together, as long as it isn't in Birmingham.

Once Peak Oil is a BIG ISSUE we'll have plenty of funding from the GOV and be able to fly off to Bali for a fortnight - it's what the global warming activists do.

In holistic medicine you treat the cause of an illness not the symptoms. Climate Change is just one symptom, together with species dieoff and a shortage of water, phosphorus, metals and food, of an earth infected with Human Overpopulation and Human Overconsumption. Cure those two and you cure all the symptoms. That's not to say that the symptoms are not getting very severe, though.

If a national meet up is required I can offer a field, free of charge, 6 miles from the junction of the M4 and A34 for a long weekend during the summer. Plenty of space for parking, camping and bbq's; far away enough from the neighbours for a bit of jammin'; got a spare double room and a bunk room and I can organise some ecobuilding, cob and straw bale, workshops if required. Got an ecohouse to see, a large organic garden, the beginnings of a forest garden and an outside cob oven and barbecue.

No need to fly off to Bali and we're about 50 miles from Brumigum but I can't guarantee the weather. The offer's there, folks.

That offer deserves its own thread! It could be great fun. Family friendly? (Wonder could I persuade our lot to go... :D )

It's just a blog. Day by day he knocks down any contrarian and denier with closely referenced rebuttals, though you do have to see past the idiosyncratic humour.

If you want meaty information go to RealClimate, but most of the professional climate scientists don't waste their time discussing the anti-AGW position. Just like most evolutionary biologists don't waste time talking about 6000 years of life involving man's cohabitation with dinosaurs.

I've started a thread in Events.

There is always a need for weeding, Jim, so that will be an optional activity.

Cat, just grab onto a passing lorry about halfway up the hill. The view from the top is good though. Or let the train take the strain. A bit expensive!

I'll bring my scythe and a guitar. Man, I'm going to look like Woody Guthrie turnin' up to pick fruit. What's become of us?
