Advice for my grown-up sons

How will oil depletion affect the way we live? What will the economic impact be? How will agriculture change? Will we thrive or merely survive?

Interesting conversation.

Regarding my personal decisions regarding peak oil, I have made a conscious decision earlier this year to put some of my savings into assets which will rise in value in a stagflationary environment.

I put a section of my savings into oil and agricultural shares and anather portion into physical gold (in Switzerland).

If I had more money (i wish!), I would buy prime farming land in the uk, top quality real estate in the 'posh' areas on the uk like kensington etc where I perceive a 'flight to security' trend in the coming years. In the worst case scenarios the central london will be secured by the military, with Kensington and Chelsea protected by the troops at Knightsbridge Barracks.

Regarding your offspring, as a young person myself (in my twenties) I have done the 'typical' thing like uni and don't regret it. Luckily i don't have any debt and I am trying to learn practible skills which will be of use in the future. I would suggest just learning as many practible skills as recommended by others and avioding getting into too much debt.

The economist Marc Faber, recommends physical gold/silver, land, equities (with a specific focus on emerging markets/commodities) and real estate.

What does practible mean?

my old dads last advice to me before he died was sail to the south seas meaning the pacific and never come back , oh he also said this countrys finished he was a believer in peak oil from the 1970s, he went to sea himself at 14 during the war .

he also said I used to think you were mad but your not mad at all, your actually the sort of fellow who would do well at sea and the pacific is the place to go..

so if I had children who I thought might do well as roaming sailors I might well give them this advice
