The thing is, exactly WHY have things reached "a very critical moment" ?

For no other reasons than we wanted it to.

We are spoiling for a fight and we'll do whatever it takes to get that.

If only the same were true of a peacful solution.

Does anyone really know why the EU are backing the US position tho?

If you polled the whole of europe and asked "who wants war with iran?" I bet the yes vote would be low - so why are the EU heads acting contrary to that?

I smell a rat...

The best thing to hope for here is that it's a neocon trap. "Please dig the hole just as deep as you please..." In the worst case it's just stupidity and cluelessness.

The Guardian

The US ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, has told British MPs that military action could bring Iran's nuclear programme to a halt if all diplomatic efforts fail. I must admit this issue is genuinely scaring me at the moment.

I was watching the Channel 4 news and some under secretary (US political dude) was talking about "being prepared for targeted sanctions" if needed and so on and so forth.

Now, if the yanks are thinking either , war or targeted (AKA oil) sanctions, then its a cluster F--k and either way we all lose.

He must be bluffing , as I expect the last thing Mr Bush wants is $6 US retail gasoline & economic armageddon.

Snowhope and Fischertrop , I may owe you guys an apology!  I guess we will soon find out!

A piece by Stan Goff from Rupperts site which has expired from the subscriber section. I'm not overly fond of the writing style, but it is close to my thinking:
