Been seeing the 6.5 Creedmor for awhile, and didn't know what to think about it either.vtsnowedin wrote: So in the end I don't need one and won't be shopping for one now. Make 250 yards on what size of target, and with what? Are we talking 1 MOA type shooting or something else?kenneal - lagger wrote:Where I live my longest shot is probably no more than 100 yds and an average shot is 50. I could make about 250 yds but that would be a miss shot over my property boundary and into public woodland so not a shot to take.

It doesn't matter if he can't safely take it.ReserveGrowthRulz wrote:Make 250 yards on what size of target, and with what? I haven't done an inventory of ammo for quite a while but including 22s it might be a couple of thousand rounds with enough components, powder primers and bullets to load maybe 1000 more. I'm down to shooting less then forty rounds a year not counting 22s so I really don't need to spend another dime on guns or ammo for the rest of my life but don't tell my wife that.

Vermin and small deer, roe and muntjac with a 22 or a 243 for the deer.ReserveGrowthRulz wrote:Make 250 yards on what size of target, and with what? And what does 1 MOA mean?

There are 360 degrees in a circle and those can de divided into 60 minutes of angle each. At 100 yards one minute of angle MOA is almost exactly one inch wide. Accurate rifles will shoot groups that are all within one inch of point of aim at 100 yards and two inches at 200 yards etc, kenneal - lagger wrote:Vermin and small deer, roe and muntjac with a 22 or a 243 for the deer.ReserveGrowthRulz wrote:Make 250 yards on what size of target, and with what? Sure, but that wasn't what I was asking. Not having control over the background and choosing not to shoot is a given. I was looking more for what does "I can make 250 yards" mean.vtsnowedin wrote:It doesn't matter if he can't safely take it.ReserveGrowthRulz wrote:Make 250 yards on what size of target, and with what? Please don't mix metric centimeters with ranges measured in yards. Sure there are 25.4 millimeters in an inch or 2.5 centimeters. I'll work in either system you chose but please don't mix the two. I have seen too many expensive mistakes from doing that.
Bullet groups are usually measured from the center to center distance between the two furthest apart holes in the target. In shooting contest the group can be deliberately set off to one side so the first few holes don't disturb the sight picture for the last shots. The name of the game is the same. In contests you cant put the gun in a vise. you can rest it on sandbags front and rear but you have to pull it into your shoulder and pull the trigger with your finger. Breath control and steady nerves count. I've seen five shot groups at 200 yards that looked like a clover leaf with all the holes touching each other. This was with a bull barrel 308 with a 30 power scope on it. Too heavy a gun to hunt with but might win a match or two.

Yeah, I did alot of that after I had moved away from the farm.vtsnowedin wrote:The only indoor pistol range near me limits it to 22s only so they are not doing pin matches. Shooting in the back yard or down at the gravel pit is the rule here.ReserveGrowthRulz wrote: The local indoor range runs bowling pin matches for $10 a match. Ever done those? They look interesting.

Move somewhere where you can shoot groundhogs and build your wife one of these.ReserveGrowthRulz wrote:......I told the wife that upon the last kid graduating college I want to move somewhere that I can crack the kitchen window and pick off groundhogs as random practice.
