It's actually Canadian humour as interpreted by an American - who never quite got Monty Python.syberberg wrote:If he actually wrote that, he has no sense of humour at all. Re: Dealing with Peak-Oil Depression
I agree about the short, sharp hookline which tempts you to read a whole article. It works and thus should be encouraged. I read PG's article, though and, whilst he made some good general points, I found the following a bit misty-eyed:
Not too sure about finding 'joy' in the drudgery of hacking up turnips in a muddy field the middle of winter with very little food in your belly (he almost qualifies it with 'kind of') but I actually enjoy my job; it's more than possible there are others like me.Peter Goodchild wrote:A century ago, there was a kind of joy in working in the fields, knowing that there was a family waiting for the products of that field. There was a joy in hammering nails, a joy in the gentle whir and thud of a loom. Now there is no joy, and those who are employed must count themselves lucky to be facing another Monday on the job.
No he didn't, to be fair - my artistic licence.clv101 wrote:He actually wrote that? Ah well...
Just seems to me that is his basic message, boiled down into a sentence.

He did say this though:
I think the ramble on this thread rather shattered Peter's credibility for me. He obviously hasn't read much here. He also talks later about what he calls the "British twit" syndrome. . . not exactly the way to win friends and influence people!

The gist of the argument seems to be, ?It doesn?t matter if oil runs out, because by then everything will be run on solar power.? This is the basic idea behind about 99% of the posts at powerswitch.org . . .
