Effective letter flap for front door?

What changes can we make to our lives to deal with the economic and energy crises ahead? Have you already started making preparations? Got tips to share?

Of course a simpler, free, alternative is to attach the kitchen waste bin your council gives you to your gate, and get a bit of fresh air collecting the post. After all, no one on PowerSwitch will let their kitchen waste go for recycling, will they :D.

Does that work, though? I mean, does the Postie actually recognise that object as a letter-box?

Postie suggested what to use and where to put it!

There was an article in the news a few weeks back, about an elderly chap who thought a (red) dog-poo bin was a letter box. He'd been putting his post in it for 20 years!

Someone in Totnes suggests using them for something else!

Quick update:

I went for a timber door and new frame with double seals on the frame. No letter flap. Instead I went for a stainless steel wall mounted exterior letter box.

All draughts have gone in our hall area and that together with a new weather compensating condensing boiler have cut my gas bill by about a third so far.

Just a few more minor draughts to sort out, We have 3 x recessed GU10 holders in the utility room (using LEDS) but they aren't sealed units so they're getting changed.

What with him and Ludwig, two counter-balancing personalities, not around and Steve Cooke and UE not posting this month, things are getting quiet. The trolls are winning.
