Yep, it may mean UKIP/BNP pick up a seat or two that they wouldn't otherwise have done and it could tip a few more vulnerable labour seats into the hands of the libdems or tories. It showed a disconnect between Gordon Brown and normal labour voters. People are worried about immigration, I believe they are right to be worried, and the current rise of the BNP is purely being driven by the unwillingness of mainstream politicians to talk about it.

Having had the chance to sleep on the meeting with that Labour voter and the talk in the car immediately afterwards, I can only conclude that Brown is not just out of touch with the electorate, but more, a very nasty character.

Well, they would if it was worth their while coming off of benefits, but the minimum wage is so low that in many cases they are better off on the dole.

Why are people worried about immigration? Perhaps it is because England is the most heavily-populated country in Europe and nobody except the BNP is willing to talk seriously about it.

Why is this woman being called a bigot (by ANYBODY) for mentioning the word "immigration"? What did she actually say which was "bigoted"? Am I a bigot?

actually all 3 main parties are now proposing some pretty serious immigration controls. UKIP and BNP go further of course, each in their own way. The 3 main parties are not proposing to leave the EU, so under current free movement rules can't stop EU immigration, but the EU migrants come and go with the available work anyway.

in my view, immigration is far down the list of things to worry about.
