Grit/Salt confiscation today - fuel & food tomorrow?

The Co-op round the corner from me had sold out of bread a couple of days back but still had enough of everything else. Tesco in Cleethorpes and my local bakery seem to be doing fine with their stock.

suppose it depends where you are...

Popped into Co-op this morning...loads of bread, eggs milk...but low veg.

The farm shop had everything - including stacks of bread at half price (50p for a granary - yummy)

Freezer now full of bread. Not because its scarce...but because it tastes good.

Yep I thought this as soon as it came on the news. As for bread shortages, its nuts all the survival shoppers run to our local stores and ransack all the bread etc the misses goes to me well shall we go stock up - errr no women. Then when they've had their fill and the shop is so called empty I stroll in and buy a few bags of flour, rice, pasta, vits, hot powdered drinks, powdered milk oh you know all the stuff that will allow you to survive a tad longer than your 3 day bread and eggs method mwhahahahaa

yes the panic buying is a bit on the annoying side. it's a self fulfilling prophecy, people all rush out at once cause they assume there's going to be a shortage and hey presto, shortage.

It is interesting though, hardly any bread in the shop down the road but loads of flour and yeast still... takes about 15 mins of effort to bake a loaf.

I think that there is a good possibility that the weather could change over the next few years to a colder spell for the northern hemisphere while the underlying climate warms. If, as some solar scientists are predicting, the sun goes into an extended quiet period, we could have a series of cold winters and cool summers. These years would not be as bad as they might have been, i.e. Maunder Minimum type weather with Ice Fairs on the Thames, because of the extra CO2 in the atmosphere. When the sun becomes more active again GW will hit us like a sledgehammer if we do nothing to mitigate it.

PO type preparations will work for this eventuality but some people, such as farmers, should take extra precautions - just in case.
