Did someone expect that we wouldn't get wintry weather in winter someplace?

Nah... just the shock of the contrast really . After a run of particularly mild winters, to be plunged into a really cold one across the Northern hemisphere points up the weather news. Not unexpected though.

The snow in the Rockies is fab, apparently, and the slopes uncrowded because of the credit crunch. I'm almost tempted, though I think I'll stick to the Sierra Nevada as its only a few hours drive away.

Pity the National Grid gas storage data are so inaccessible these days. I wonder how we are getting on.

Maybe I will be able to summon up the energy to trawl through their portal, the info is probably 'locked in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "beware of the leopard"' or something (as the Hitch Hikers' Guide has it).

When was that? Forgotten the chaos caused by snow at holiday time in China last year? Or the pomegranate trees destroyed by frost in Iran?
A couple of weeks ago the Russians were complaining about the lack of snow and the bears not hibernating.

It's just weather.

Ha! Different perspective. I'm 1500 miles south of you. And didn't we have a run of mild winters in the late 90's and early naughties? compared with, say, the 50's and 60's? This is just my subjective impression.
