A Florida state employee is in hot water for speaking about climate change at an official meeting and keeping notes of that discussion in official minutes, according to a complaint filed today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). In response, his superiors at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) issued him a letter of reprimand, ordered him to take two days leave and then told him not to return until he had medical clearance of his fitness for duty.

That Rick Scott is a weasel.

No, that's an insult to weasels. But you know what I mean - a politician. Rule number 1 - never answer the question.

The thread heading gets no rest.

The permanent paranoia of empire
Perhaps the President misspoke. There is really only one way in which Venezuela presents a threat to the U.S. That is the threat that the stunningly successful Bolivarian Revolution poses to the neoliberal fascism practiced in America and Europe. After all, just compare the statistics. Across the board, the Bolivarian model is unquestionably superior to the neoliberal model when it comes to lifting the quality of life for the majority. It has liberated the Venezuelan people in numberless ways. Jobs, incomes, health, political participation, all surged while poverty plummeted under Hugo Chavez and his beleaguered successor Nicolas Maduro. Employment, incomes, political participation, all headed south under George W. Bush and Obama, just to limit one’s gaze to this century.

Did the President rather mean to say that no single country has larger crude reserves than Venezuela, and that American access to it has been limited since Hugo Chavez skyrocketed into the presidency on the backs of massive popular support and immediately nationalized the oil industry?
The current US fascist despot said Venezuela was, “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, and I hereby declare a national emergency to deal with that threat.”

He does spout a load of bollocks sometimes.

But of course, but in your view which one?
I can't stand Hillary but Jeb annoys me on a couple of issues and I just don't think we should make the US presidency a hereditary position. Out of 320 million Americans there has to be some better choices.

As Alan Dulles (when head of CIA) said in 1953: "Mind warfare is the great battlefield of the Cold War, and we have to do whatever it takes to win this."

The US regime has continued in this vein ever since. Even more so, in fact.

Today's reason to despise the US:
Federal authorities have granted permission to an American hunter to kill an endangered black rhino in Namibia, and then bring the so-called trophy back to the United States. This is the most recent development in a saga that began nearly two years ago, when the Dallas Safari Club auctioned off a permit to hunt the endangered creature. The winning bidder paid $350,000 for the chance to bag a Black Rhino, but the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) initially denied his request to bring the dead animal back to the U.S. However, upon determining that the proceeds from the auction and subsequent hunt will go towards conservation efforts, the agency has given the go-ahead.

(Not that we don't have people in the UK who think killing animals for fun is cool.)
