Hazel will coppice as well as ash will. Just don't cut it all at the same time and you will still have some nuts.snow hope wrote:I have a lot of ash trees round my perimeter and it makes great firewood - so dry even when you have just cut it. ....
..... You cut down hazel trees (shrubs) - how could you?

I've started a blog about our place in Wales and the little downshifting project that is our lives right now.

Please come by and visit. There's also a podcast (all of one episode so far). I'm also thinking of doing a powerswitch podcast covering the stories I see on powerswitch and maybe interviewing some of you good folks who are making interesting changes to your lives...

Great job Tess,
Powerswitch podcasts are a good idea - I've been wanting a UK-based version of Peak Moment - keep us all posted with how you go.
What did you use to create the podcast?

I mentioned this thread and your blog to my lovely wife, she said " I wouldn't mind doing that".
Surprised ? Yes I am.
23 years married and I still don't know what she's thinking.
I said "but surely you'd miss all your friends" to which she replied " Well, there's always Facebook, and we could visit sometimes".

I felt that way when I suggested to Dave (jokingly) that we should move to Wales. I never expected him to get all excited by the idea because he seemed so committed to being an academic in London. And here we are three months later digging the garden and building polytunnels.Catweazle wrote:I mentioned this thread and your blog to my lovely wife, she said " I wouldn't mind doing that".
