Only half an acre, but it'll take us a while to use that. It's all rather overgrown at the moment. I'm gonna see if I can get involved in the adjacent woodland - i understand our new neighbours to one side manage it, while it's owned by other neighbours down the road ...

Paddy the Russian, Paddy the German and Paddy the Limerick man saw Jesus in a pub once. Paddy the Russian bought him a vodka, Paddy the German bought him a lager and Paddy the Limerick man bought him a Guinness.Andy Hunt wrote:Agree 100%, I saw Jesus drinking in the Uplands Tavern in Swansea once.
As the pub closed, Jesus shook Paddy the Russian by the hand, thanking him. Paddy the Russian said in amazement, "My backache's disappeared! I can stand up straight!"
Jesus shook Paddy the German by the hand. Paddy the German cried, "My war wound! It's gone! I don't limp any more!"
Jesus walked up to Paddy the Limerick man, who backed away, saying, "Don't you dare come near me - I'm drawing the disability!"

It is going to be a lot of work and a lot of fun developing the garden. It's quite overgrown right now. I think we'll just start from the bottom and reclaim it as we go. I need to start reading my permaculture books in earnest to plan where everything should go!Keela wrote: My imagination is working overtime for you. New garden... new opportunities ..... & what are you gonna plant?
The bf is very excited about keeping chickens.
Goats. Buggers to keep contained, but will munch brambles and the like....
Follow with Pigs to plough, then chickens to clean the small seeds, then a nice green manure....
Or so the theory goes anyway....

First thing is to ensure that only a small number of pennies are required to sustain comfortable living conditions. Since there's no mortgage I figure outgoings will be mostly council tax, food, heating bills, broadband and insurance, aside from the various improvement projects we'll do while the money's still there (woodstove, solar water etc).Vortex wrote:So Tess is this goodbye to The Smoke?
How will you earn your pennies?
We're considering various ways to earn money while keeping it all strictly part time. I'm considering short term IT contracts in london (3-6 months) as required, or getting trained to teach software development which can be done on a part time contract basis. I don't mind the odd visit to London to earn money, so long as it's brief. (I can actually do my current job from any home office, but I can't rely on it lasting in the current financial climate.) Dave is looking at training to be a motorbike or driving instructor, work which can also be done part time. This would pay for necessary outgoings while still leaving 6-9 months of the year free.
The most important thing for both of us is to be working a lot less so we can spend time having a life.
