Slightly O/T but many new or refurbished offices have lighting controlled by movement sensors, the occupants absolutly hate it! they cant leave lights on all day in empty rooms, if they go to sleep at the desk the lights go out, and everyone knows someone who was nearly killed by the lights going out, and women especialy feel threatened if the whole building is not lit.
I recently strolled through an empty open plan office fitted with these panels in the ceiling.
It's VERY weird having a single panel light up above your head as you walk around, with the previous panels going out as you move away.
From outside you could easily count how many staff were in a building, and where the key doors and meeting rooms etc were.

I hope they've improved them. I once worked in an office and had to get up from my desk and wave my hands about every 15 minutes after being plunged in the dark. The sensors weren't setup right, so just tapping away on a laptop wasn't enough movement to keep the lights on. Personally, I would've been happier with the main lights switched out and a desk lamp...
Living part time out in the countryside, I have grown dependent on head lamps. Extremely handy things.
One slight problem though: If you think the ladies will complain about motion sensors in alleys, just wait until you hear the comments on what these things will do to their hair...
We have movement sensors in some of our teaching rooms.
Working at a computer is not enough to keep the lights on - I have to get up and walk across the room to encourage them back on!
Sometimes the lights have even gone off with a room full of students working! Of course everybody looks up then and the lights come back on!
Yes I find it annoying.
Our labs either have better adjusted sensors (ie no problems) or they don't have them. The labs don't need them anyway as all the science teachers turn out lights as they lock the lab. Automatic response!

Just bought a cheap one off ebay. What makes do you recommend MacG? Any links to where you buy them? Ta.

Guess there is a zoo of very similar devices out there. I avoid Gerber - nice looking stuff but it broke quite quickly. Silva have a nice little 3-LED-thing which I like. Currently waiting for the 3W diodes to find their way into compact head lamps.
