Yeah, gets my vote too. Perhaps we could put Ken's wind turbine up next year???snow hope wrote:Well that's a great offer from Ken and family to do the event next year! It would certainly get my vote as the facilities and space on the farm are ideal for this kind of event. And I would like to see how much Ken gets achieved in the coming year.
I am sure we could put our heads together and suggest some workshops that we might like / find useful.

Ken was thinking about using a cob jet/rocket stove for heating the water for the showers using waste wood, a similar arrangement to outside his kitchen door. Since using a large mass of cob would keep a lot of heat in the structure for some time there could be two things:Andy Hunt wrote:Hi Ken, I don't suppose there's any chance of you starting a thread about the design/implementation of your compost toilets?
- a dual chamber for the deposited humanure to be treated thermopilically for a few hours (between 50 and 70C) to kill off all the pathogens, so one chamber is 'cooked' whilst the other is being filled.
- using some horizontal ducting for the flue to heat some of the spaces, the flue could sit under a cob bench giving some comfort in winter (don't suppose this could be utalised for the loos? what a talking point that would be!) I saw this on a video yesterday http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=235m0EzZF4U
If the thermal dynamics of the cob were insufficient to guarentee the temperature then if a thermal store/accumulatore was used with mains pressure in the top for hot water outlet then this without any of its own insulation (encased in the cob for insulation) if it ran at the usual 80C + would likely ensure the adjoining chambers reached the correct temperature with the cob acting as insulation to maintain the temperature.
Anybody know of anything like this in the real world beyond my imagination?
Sounds like some seriously hot shit.
