That's not a bad idea...SunnyJim wrote:I was wondering about the usefulness of a spoddy kind of introduction booklet thing. Forum name - real name - breif description of interests, skill etc....
It might help those with similar interests or relevant skills meet up and chat in the limited time we have.

People are naturally far more hostile on forums than in real life, far more. That said, this forum is one of the least hostile I've ever come across - that translates into real life meets.J. R. I echo that. I've come across almost incomprehensible rage and bile on other forums. This place is an island in a sea of shite.clv101 wrote:People are naturally far more hostile on forums than in real life, far more. By the way I've been in touch with Ken re. the meet up. Sounds great and I'd like to put some forum names to faces. Just need to be persuaded to make the loooooong trip from Lincolnshire with the family in tow. Is anyone passing by in their helicopter??

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to make this now . . .
Will be gutted if I can't though.
For some reason I had thought it was not far South of Birmingham, absolutely no idea where I got that impression from. Didn't realise it was in Berkshire . . . that's a good 5 hours drive from Bury.
Dragging the soundsystem complete with batteries all that way is going to cost me a fortune in petrol - not exactly 'ecological'. Plus the earliest I can set off on Saturday is lunchtime, so we wouldn't even get there until the evening.
Darn . . .

I went to Felixstowe, with a friend, at the weekend for another friend's 40 birthday party. (both coming to the Gathering by the way). On the way back we were looking at all the traffic thinking about where they had all been and whether we should all be travelling. We came to the conclusion that we would all carry on travelling until either we couldn't afford it or regulation of some sort made it impossible or too expensive.
Although the BBC News tonight was lauding the 4p drop in fuel prices, it won't be long until we either can't afford the fuel as we haven't got jobs any more or the price goes rocketing back up again.
I'm waiting for the diesel price to drop a bit before I order more red diesel for my genny. The last lot cost over £600. We have had to reduce the running time from 14/16 hrs per day to 10/12 after the recent increases. Not a problem during the summer but I'll have to do something for the winter.
If anyone is wondering about the travelling time to the gathering Multimap's times are on the safe side. They gave the Felixstowe trip as 3hrs 13mins and we did it in under 3hrs, travelling at the speed limit or under all the way.
