We've got a 250 litre Albion Mainsflow cylinder ( http://www.albionwaterheaters.com/Mainsflow.htm ) in the loft with extra insulation around it. The mainsflow coil is in the form of about a dozen 8 or 10mm pipes in parallel to give a higher surface area than a standard coil. We can shower comfortably with a cylinder temperature of 50 deg C and a bit lower in the summer.
I've got one of the large "coffin" water tanks, not fitted yet, in the loft in case I want to go "off grid" with the water. I could get this above the HW cylinder to give a working head and use a solar powered pump to pump treated collected rain water to it.

JonB joined long after JohnB, so it's his fault . My brain isn't working well enough today to butcher any more song lyrics, but if anyone else wants a go

As I understand it, JohnB smells of diesel, while I have more of
a nappy motif...
