Of all the traumas to hit America, it will be the skyrocketing price of plastic that will break its spirit.

I say. You ex-colonial chaps have the accents, not us.

No, you are not wrong.

Those of us who think this is the going to be the case need to organise so that we can retain some sort of civilised existence for ourselves by biulding srong interdepndant communites.

By force if neccessary.
I agree, BUT ...

... will the locals allow them to "retain some sort of civilised existence"? I believe that the UK (and especially England) will have a front row seat for whatever horrors unfold.

A community of "white, middle class, Lib-Dems" living an Iron Age existence in a Peak Oil age? Something like this perhaps?

Alas, I don't fancy their chances when the great unwashed get restless.
I am a middle class, guardian reading liberal.

However, I realise, that as this crisis unfolds, I am going to have to adapt. I am going to have to divest myself of some of the liberal, middle class beliefs that I currently hold so dear.

You are correct about about the great unwashed. Any community that is going to survive and stand against the horrors that are to come, will need to get real. Get tough. Get prepared.

Starting now.

Okay...you can keep the bad oral hygiene...but those accents...they have got to go.

The Polish, Russian , Lithuanian, Somali, Ethiopian, Romanian, Iraqi?

We live in a multicultural society, guvnor.

But please not with capitalisation, we have to have some standards. 'guardian' should have a capital 'G' (and there probably ought to be a hyphen in there somewhere)

Hey! You might as well join the winning side!

Probably not the most appropriate place to bring it up (or perhaps it is, considering the thread title), but did anyone watch the last 3-parter Dr. Who story? and was anyone else struck by the rounding up of foreign nationals to got to concentration camps during the emergency (I think in the first episode)?

Peter sometimes forgets to place a full stop at the end of a sentence, perhaps thinking that a smiley is an adequate substitute.

Civilisation falls around our ears. Meanwhile a small group of prescient peakniks can be heard arguing about punctuation.

Actually, because I'm a 19th century throw-back, I think that I'm writing a letter to you all, and I try to place a comma at the end of my missive, followed by my name (which, of course, the software kindly displays on the left of what I write anyway). You're lucky that I don't start 'Sirs' and end 'Yours faithfully'. Oh, what the hell!

Yours faithfully,

Peter.

That is my one concession to the 21st century,
