Ask your MP to attend Peak Oil film screening in Parliament

Post by APPGOPO »

'The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil' will be shown to MPs, Lords and Parliamentary Staff at 6.30pm on Tuesday July 8th in the Wilson Room, Portcullis House.

If you are a UK citizen, please email your MP asking them to attend this screening. You can find out who your MP is and email them through www.writetothem.com

Feel free to use the email template below:

Dear [MP's Name],

I would be grateful if you would attend the Parliamentary Screening of 'The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil' at 6.30pm on Tuesday July 8th in the Wilson Room, Portcullis House.

The film documents the rise of local, organic agriculture in Cuba after oil imports were cut off following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

I am concerned that global oil production may be reaching its peak and will soon begin to terminally decline. The International Energy Agency (IEA) warned in their Medium Term Oil Market Report (July 2007) of an oil 'supply crunch' by 2012*, and a large body of geologists, oil industry figures and analysts are forecasting that global peak oil production will occur before 2015**. Given modern agriculture?s dependence on oil and gas inputs, it seems appropriate for policy makers to begin planning for a future agricultural model which will be much less dependent on fossil fuels.

Please let me know if you will be able to attend the film.

Yours sincerely,

[Your Name]

Mine borrowed my copy about a year ago and also lent it to a friend, who, as far as I know, still has it. He did buy me another copy though. He has also attended at least one APPGOPO meeting.

Ok, so I got a reply from my MP:

'I very much regret that I shan't be able to attend the screening'

There's a surprise

Done. My MP has a reputation for being singularly useless and supporting a variety of complete lame-duck causes, so I'm not holding my breath, but if she doesn't attend, she will be named and shamed on here!
