LARGEST FUEL PROTEST YET TARGETS THE SOUTH WEST

Organisers of a national day of fuel price protests will be coming to Plymouth on Sunday 22 June in what they hope will be the biggest show of national unity yet.

In recent weeks lorry drivers and motorcyclists have taken to the roads to voice their anger at increasing prices, but this time they are combining forces with car owners, taxi drivers, farmers and businesses.

?This event is for everyone, every man, women and child as fuel prices effect everyone. Food, clothing, utilities, everything goes up with it? said Bob Cole one of the event organisers.

?We hope everyone across the whole of Devon and Cornwall will attend the largest protest yet, be it on foot, bicycles, horse back, tractors, camper vans, lorry?s or cars? he continued. ?People from all walks off life need to show that the Great British bulldog has not rolled over and died?

Protesters plan to congregate on the Plymbridge Road, Estover in Plymouth from 11am, and follow a nine mile route through the town, finishing at the Marsh Mills roundabout. People can then either disperse or meet on the Plymouth Hoe for a family picnic.

?As a nation we are great complainers, but reluctant to do much about it. If we take that attitude the Government will believe they can do as they wish. Its time we all stood and made them listen. If you only ever make one protest in your life, make it this one? Bob said.

In other countries fuel price increases have seen major protests, yet the cost per litre is half that paid in the UK. ?We are being taken for mugs. New Zealanders, Americans, Canadians, French, Italians and Spaniards can?t believe how much we pay at the pumps and think we are daft not to have taken a stand sooner?

When asked if using fuel to make a protest about fuel prices was a paradox Bob replied ?People need transport, businesses need transport. If, as a country, we can all take to the roads on one single day it will send a clear and loud message to those in the corridors of power. And whilst I don?t disagree that our actions will make them more money, it?s the principle, we have to make a stand somehow, and if our actions can bring the prices down we?ll recoup money well spent?

The organisers have written to motorcycle and motoring clubs in the South West calling for their support and want businesses to join in to. One business owner supporting this campaign is Jack Ford who owns his own removals company and took lorry drivers through Plymouth a few weeks ago. ?There is a huge demand for a weekend protest? he said.

Campaigners hope the event will be peaceful, and that residents from smaller towns and villages will join them.

Hi, I am new here. Site is very interesting.
I see there is to be a fuel protest again in Plymouth 22nd June, can someone please post here in this thread, exactly what times (as I believe there are two) leaving Plymbridge road Plymouth. I belong to two protest groups and I could post the details, as I know a lot of them may wish to come on down and join you. We were quite successful up in Lymms, M6 last Saturday. I have looked at various sights but all that they state is the protest starts from Plymbridge Road, one time is 9.30am another time 11.00am. If protesters were coming form up north I presume the correct road to approach by would be the A38.
Any please advise any definate information.

Hi I think you have the wrong end of the stick, most users of this forum think that fuel is cheap at the moment....
