Cracking under the strain...

Post by SunnyJim »

PO has forced me to take on way too much. I'm having a day of cleansing.

Quiting the council. It's pointless. Its taken me a year to get allotments on the agenda, and I did that as a member of the public at the parish meeting. I'm going to focus at lobbying the council now. I'll come up with the ideas and the direction, and they can put them into action. But I can do this as and when I want. No pressure, not deadlines.

Applying for another Job. Still software, but rather than financial industry, it will be for the mineral exploration industry. (is that bad ju-ju?). No commute to do! Yay!.

Giving the band a break. Going to take a month of the weekly band practice. Need a break anyway, we're getting 'stale'.

PO preps will take a back seat for a month, and I spend some time cycling, swimming & walking with the family. Most of all, laughting.

It's amazing how PO has slowly caused me to take on more and more. Is that even logical? Shouldn't it make me want to shirk all responsibility and live for the now???

I'm off to meditate on that question now.

Later!
Jim

Good move Jim.

If you're a nice person, it's inevitable that you feel as though your responsibility is to get things going to ensure a descent to some sort of normality where people can provide for themselves locally and help your friends and family and do what you can for yourself too.

Serious conversations and explanations take time and energy - especially when you think you've done your best to explain what's happening then folks change the subject to tell you about the new car they want to buy or try to get you excited about preparations for their next winter holiday...

Take the world off your shoulders for a bit, get yourself fit, have fun with your family learning a few new skills and live in the here and now. :D

I don't worry about PO specifically ... BUT ... the coming general economic & energy crises are making me get off my bum, that's for sure!

I seem to spend my spare time feeding sheep or driving them to the vet or injecting them, or working out how I can afford the new fencing AND a livestock trailer ... etc etc etc

It's a bit like that dreadful, dreadful film The Langoliers where you KNOW something bad is coming for you ... and it's getting nearer and nearer each hour ...

The energy, food, economic problems are a bit like that ... but everyone is acting normally and is hoping that the nasty sounds they hear coming nearer each day are simply a storm or bush fire or something ...

Yep, I can see why you are driven to do something , ANYTHING.

Sunnyjim maybe you just need a break to recharge & get perspective, then you'll be ready to throw yourself back into anything & everything you want to. :)

Yeah, take it easy... but not too easy!

Relax... but don't forget that the S is hitting the F all around us right now!

I currently feel almost paralysed, in awe at the events unfolding around the world at the moment, despite having "known" for years that huge problems were ahead. Like a rabbit staring at the headlights of an oncoming juggernaut, I'm too fascinated by the spectacle to be able to get on with saving my ass.

Exactly!

Tomorrow I'm buying some more jerrycans and filling them.

I'm also moving our new lambs to our land.

A bit of short term precaution plus a bit of long term preparation.

I'm getting VERY twitchy ...

Just think of it as a rollercoaster.

You know, the ones which very rarely but sometimes come completely off the rails and loads of people die.

It's quite possible for stress to paralyse you into inaction, better to take a break and come back focused on fewer things than battle on against overload and become burned-out.

Enjoy your break :D
