Biker fuel price protests in Manchester.

Post by Kentucky Fried Panda »

if you're travelling around the city on Thursday, expect delays.
A MASSIVE 'go-slow' protest against high fuel prices is set to bring roads across Greater Manchester to a standstill.

More than a thousand bikers are expected to join forces to cause havoc on motorways and major routes into the city centre to demonstrate their anger at the soaring cost of petrol.

I find that the sad thing about all these protests is . . . who are they protesting against? It'd be great if petrol prices came down, and stayed down - but it isn't going to happen is it - the only way is up.

Sure we could cut fuel excise, thereby bankrupting the country a little more, but the reduction in tax would quickly be eaten up by another increase in oil prices.

Strikes me there is a bit of a "King Canute" thing going on here, trying to turn back the tide of rising energy prices. Maybe people will start to spot the pattern soon, and peak oil will become a widely discussed issue? We can dream . . .

Why bikers?? Surely they use less fuel than any other motorists on the road. Now truckers...

I don't know about biking, but I seem to recall reading that the total cost of motoring (inc. fuel) is more than 10% down since 1997; unlike the cost of my train tickets!

Sorry, not got a source for this.

I didn't go, I'm currently between bikes after some health complications, maybe next year.
