I remember the oil shocks in the 70's. Woodburners, horses, bicycles and rural properties went skyrocketing in price. Horses by a factor of 8 in a couple of months.

Yeah, stay ahead of that curve Vortex. When the price of dinky fuel efficient cars goes up, it's time to sell and get that horse.

For every complex problem, there is a simple answer, and it's wrong.

Tapis crude spot price at $141.15, up $6.48 on the day.

This might even be the BEGINNING of a speculation bubble :)

At the moment I'm struggling with the conversation I had with my wife last year when oil had dropped to approx $60. It went something like "I wish we had some spare cash because this is the time to buy as it's bound to go back up again". Whether I actually would have gone for it and coughed up say ?50K is another matter!

Just been to town & back.

Startled to see oil still at $134. Had expected $136 or so.

Must be a quiet trading day.

Vortex, you just have to accept that you don't have the power over the markets that Mike P has! :)

Vortex, I think you should consider changing your monicker to Captain Mannering.

Actually, I don't give a toss.

We live in a rural village, have a bit of land, no major debts, no major commutes, and run our own businesses.

It's just VERY interesting watching history being made.

This sudden increase in the price of oil is a MAJOR, MAJOR event ... it's just that not many have realised this yet.

Quite right, we have arranged things as best possible too. This is a fascinating ride.

That didn't appear as I expected, but glad you enjoy the flattery.

It is incredible isn't it? The foundations are being laid for a completely different way of life in 5 years time. All the while the majority are still expecting and waiting for everything to 'recover' and for 'long term' growth to return....

As you say, it's a monumental time in the history of mankind, and as such in the history of this little planet of ours. I'm not sure how to mark it, but I feel I should. I think I'm going to have a big old solstice celebration and mark it with a big speach to the assembled throng. Then I'll slaughter a goat or something.
