Who uses Tapis? What's so special about it reaching such highs ($124 at the moment)?

Fuel for flying carpets??
Maybe it's the carpet tacks?

What price is the BBC quoting? It always seems to be at variance with all other figures I see.
AFAIK the oil prices on the BBC news website are only updated once a day, in the late afternoon.
Sometimes they get it wrong, posting a decline instead of an increase, or swapping over the Brent price and the West Texas price, or even posting a price of $00-00!

I believe that the more expensive crude oils are lighter, that is easier to handle/more fluid, and when refined such oil produces a larger % of the desirable light fractions (petrol, jet fuel, diesel) and a smaller % of the less valuable heavy products such as heavy furnace oil, residual oil and bitumen.

Another question: is oil really in barrels? If so, are they plastic, metal or what? And are they re-used?

When nature created oil, she also created metal accretions around the deposits, with a distinctive barrel-like shape. The oil drilling rigs lift the barrel-shaped oil filled packages to the surface. Obviously this one 'escaped'.
Clearly the oil industry would have preferred to find large 'pools' of 'unpackaged' oil in the depths - but at least these metal wrapped globules are easy to transport.
