Re: New all time WTI high

Post by Papillon »

Hah! I decided to have a look at page 1 of this thread. Guess what - it was exactly 6 months ago (Sept 12). And here's the first post:

That's a rise of approx 40% on six months ago

I've been tracking pound-dollar rates as well as oil prices, and I can tell you that yesterday was a new record in ?/barrel as well as $, at ?54.73

I've not been tracking euro though, as my main interest is where fuel prices are going in the UK.

What goes up must indeed come down, but the supply/demand balancing act has now been distorted by the perversity of investors fear. The dash for commodities due to the innate sense of mistrust of complex investements has distorted the market. I don't think the price will move according to fundamentals until the brewing commodities 'bubble' bursts. This could take some time!

And if you think oils got it bad, check out wheat.....
http://markets.ft.com/ft/markets/commodities.asp

Wheat has risen 187% in the last year, compared with a measly 88% rise in crude prices!!!!!

Wheat has gone up 15% in the last week compared with oils modest 4%.

I've just seen $111.00 at http://www.nymex.com/lsco_fut_cso.aspx.

Hmm... $111's a nice number, though $111.11 would have been nicer, and I'm quite looking forward to $123.45 (but we'll have to wait at least a couple of weeks before we see that one!!)

Err ... umm ... if I had a steam engine whose boiler pressure was increasing like this, I might consider running like hell ... even if the physicists said, "Don't worry, it's a migration of the energy from the condenser to the boiler. All quite explicable."
