I agree Aurora, why do that to them. You got to draw the line somewhere!
"I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that." — Thomas Edison, 1931

A song for all doomers and PO nuts.

Some People Are Crazy by John Martyn

Some people are crazy about him
Some people can't stand his face
Some people they smile when they know he's coming
Some people chase him out of the place.

But this loving kind of business
Might make your poor heart glad
Yes this loving kind of business
Might be the best find you ever had
The best find you ever had.

Some people are crazy
Some people are just plain good
Some people talk wouldness and couldness
Some people don't do as they should.

But this loving kind of business
Might make your poor heart glad
Yes this loving kind of business
Might be the best thing that you ever had
The best find you ever had.

Some people got a glass eye
Some people got a window to watch
Some people draw conclusions like curtains
Ah, don't they draw them tight
Don't they, draw them tight
Don't they, draw them tight
Don't they, draw them tight.

Ah, some people are crazy about him
Some people they can't stand his face
Some people they laugh when they know he's coming
Some people chase him out of the place.

Some people are crazy
Some people are just like me.

Some people are crazy
Some people are just like me.

Half Man Half Biscuit : The Trumpton Riots.

Oh!

Oh! Oh! Oh!

ELEVATE!!!!!!!!

Unemployment's rising in the Chigley end of town,
And it's spreading like pneumonia doesn't look like going down.
There's trouble at the fire station someone's had the sack,
And the lads are going to launch a scheme to get rid of Captain Flak.

Tell PC McGarry to get himself a mate,
And arm themselves with CS gas - they're going to be out late.
We've had Cant conformism since 1966,
And now subversion's in the air in the shape of flying bricks.

Chorus:
Someone get a message through to Captain Snort
That they better start assembling the boys from the fort.
And keep Mrs. Honeyman right out of sight,
'Cos there's gonna be riot down in Trumpton Tonight.

All this aristocracy has really got to stop'
We could overthrow the surgery and kidnap Dr Mopp.
The Chippy Minton Socialists could storm the market square,
And make plans to assassinate our autocratic mayor!

Windy Millitant leads his Basque-like corngrinders to war,
With windmill sails and bombs with nails they smash the town hall door.
But Snorty and his boys arrive with one big erstwhile crew,
Whereupon they bring about a military coup.

Chorus x 2

My hero!
Maybe we should start a seriously OT Bukowski thread?
Decline by Charles Bukowski

naked along the side of the house,
8 a.m., spreading sesame seed oil
over my body, Jesus, have I come
to this?
I once battled in dark alleys for a
laugh.
now I'm not laughing.
I splash myself with oil and wonder,
how many years do you want?
how many days?
my blood is soiled and a dark
angel sits in my brain.
things are made of something and
go to nothing.
I understand the fall of cities, of
nations.
a small plane passes overhead.
I look upward as if it made sense to
look upward.
it's true, the sky has rotted:
it won't be long for any of
us.

Peak oil films yield such great samples . . . I've used the opening lines of "End of Empire - What A Way to Go" as a sample in a new dance track "Childhood's End" for anyone who's interested:

My son came across this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_dDDvuCfP4

Classic battle scenes between Good and Evil set to gorgeous Gothic rock (if you like that kind of thing!) from his current favourite films. What appealed to me about them is that the 'heroes' each get their powers from an Element of nature (Air, Water, etc) and the villains have the 'power of Shadows'. The 'heroes' always do better if they're working as a team (they appear i the last shot and immobilise the villain) and in one film they spend a lot of time searching for (and eventually find) someone who gets his power from Light. I mean, as a metaphor for children about renewable energy and why we need it, I think it's difficult to beat!

Here are the lyrics:
It is the end of all hope
To lose the child, the faith
To end all the innocence
To be someone like me
This is the birth of all hope
To have what I once had
This life unforgiven
It will end with a birth

No will to wake for this morn
To see another black rose born
Deathbed is slowly covered with snow

Angels, they fell first but I'm still here
Alone as they are drawing near
In heaven my masterpiece will finally be sung

Wounded is the deer that leaps highest
And my wound it cuts so deep
Turn off the light and let me pull the plug

Mandylion without a face
Deathwish without a prayer
End of hope
End of love
End of time
The rest is silence
Not very happy, but I did say Gothic!

Cool, would like to hear them!

Try the link again - I've put a few extra synths and stuff on there to fill it out a bit.

Getting another PV panel next week - I've only got a music computer, don't have lots of fancy hardware synths or anything, I use software for pretty much everything. I would really miss being able to record music in protracted power cuts, which is part of the reason for my off-grid PV system!
