Is nuclear fission going to make a comeback and plug the gap in our energy needs? Will nuclear fusion ever become energetically viable?

Supposing we could get fusion to work and supposing we could scale it quick enough to replace all our fossil fuels and then some, I wonder what kind of waste products it would produce.

I'm thinking of too much oxygen being produced as they split the water to get hydrogen out for fuel.

Would too much oxygen be WORSE than too much CO2?

Also: what about all the waste heat from millions of reactors all over the place?

Nothing to worry about, really. The problem would be what damage we would do with all that energy.
