Population control 'needs debate'

Post by Norm »

Rapid world population growth must be halted to stop mankind "swamping the planet" like a "virus", a British MEP has warned.
Liberal Democrat Chris Davies told the BBC that politicians had to break a "taboo" and discuss the subject.

The North West England MEP added that families should be encouraged to have no more than one child in an effort to combat climate change.

Well, he is brave!
I'll have to congratulate him.
What a shame, seemed quite promising, this human species.

Rapid world population growth must be halted to stop mankind "swamping the planet" like a "virus" because you peasants wont fall for another world war - god you breed like rabbits I should shoot you with my blunder bus.

Thats more along the lines they were thinking. Now real brave would be lets have more humans so we can use them for food in PO, dont have to go far to find one, easy to fatten up, lots of meat, can do a range of jobs until slaughter, plus with a little medical know how can eat a limb at a time and still keep the rest alive and fresh!

No, he isn't.

If he were brave he would have stated exactly what form he thinks this "encouraging" people only to have one child should take, rather than saying "I'm happy for people to come up with ideas (for me to slag off)" as he does at the end of the piece.

People are always "calling for a debate" on this or that - why don't they actually start one, then?

Looks to me like he's at least attempting to start the debate.

Here's an idea: tax breaks for couples that only have one child.

How about a large cash inducement for voluntary sterilisation before any children and a somewhat smaller one after 1 child. How else could you bring about a reduced population in a realistic humane way?

A much more effective strategy would be to devote more resources to world wide women's education, health care and social security.

F*ck it!

I want no part of such "discussions"!

I prefer "the natural way" over anything I've seen designed by people this far. Starvation, war and diseases are more attractive than any cleverly designed scheme for "population control". ANY scheme designed by people will be hacked by even more clever people, and as I stated in another thread, I'm sick and tired of all those clever social hacks. Prefer to design permaculture schemes trying to trick nature over designing social hacks trying to trick other people.

your all a bunch of imperialists  , what right have you to tell other cultures to change , mind your own business and protect your own country if your worried about overpopulation .

honestly I can see a lot of you people being big empire supporters in another age

not everyone in the world thinks like you, go tell the taliban about world wide women's education or sterilisation , at the moment their attacking girls schools and thats not the only country thats happening .

some people believe that overpopulation is no problem as gods looking after things , so what right do you have to try to cut back the number of children they have , actually preaching what your saying in this thread could easy get you killed in many countrys

Spot on!

Population reduction begins at home. Anyone who advocates "population reduction" should start by setting an example and "reduce" themselves.

F*ck it. I want no part of this "discussion" thing.

Very imotive subject and you both make fair points. Population Control and inducements to voluntarily limit births are two distinct positions I feel. My question is still what humane alternative have we? Or do we not have one? Is it really down to letting nature cull the population to the earths carrying capacity.

By the way jonny this was asked by a British MEP.

Like pestilence, famine, disease and war?
It does have a proven track record!

If you ask me, I think that "modern" society is a suicide cult -- most people know what's going on, but they can't get off the Pavlovian consumption treadmill to stop the shit (climate change, peak oil, toxic food, etc.) happening.

Unfortunately, most people don't know what's going on, they think that the Pavlovian consumption treadmill IS the real deal.

If you get the chance watch the entire film and think about the fact that the worlds smartest people are having children later or never , while those idiot Cornucopians and mighty pesky religious folk are breeding like rabbits.
