Good that it's being mentioned at all on the MSM; but mildly disappointing from a PO perspective, as many of these oil-related features tend to be. Evan Davis' piece just barely hinted at the forthcoming supply and demand problem, but finished by saying that the "lesson of history is that when prices soar up to record levels, they usually then fall back down." So that's all right then. The interview with Leo Drollis and Steven Bell that followed dwelt, predictably, on economics, but it was quite interesting when Jim Naughtie mentioned the prospect of oil "running out" (not a great choice of words, it must be admitted) - Drollis' response was to the effect that "it's a question of investments to get the oil out of the ground". I think that what he was trying to say is that the cheap oil has gone, without actually mentioning the "P" word.

It was very poor, both for the "if it goes up, it must come down" reasoning and for the completely unchallenged assertions about tar sands. My wife - who is only aware of PO through my constant badgering - said if I hadn't primed her, she would have felt quite reassured by the piece. I'm not sure if the recent increase in news reports isn't making people more complacent, not less.

I agree, terrible. The presenter was apparently better informed than any of his guests. I gave Evan piece of my mind on his blog at http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters ... entsanchor
What a shame, seemed quite promising, this human species.

I used to like Evan's pieces... but he seem so even handed nowadays ... "on one side ... on the other side ..."

Sometime I even imagine that he is trying to de-panic situations ...
