I'd definitely go down the Pink Floyd route. Well, actually, more likely the Joni Mitchell route these days.

More seriously, for me peak oil is all about uncertainty about the future. Since becoming PO aware I feel much less certain about how things will be in seven years then I did before. All I feel certain about is the big picture change in trend defined by the turning point in our energy supply. (Isn't it fun gratuitously taking a thread off-topic?)

Aha! I'll add you to my list of people to ask when I get stuck with my horticultural correspondance course notes. Just been writing up my answers to questions about plant cell biology. I gave up biology aged 14 - hated all the cutting things up - but I admit I'm absolutely in awe of and inspired by the machinations of DNA, RNA and the tiny protein machines they create.

I'd probably spend less time on the internet answering hypothetical questions. More time listening to this

Can't say I'll be able to answer every question, but happy to try! :)

Stay in Manchester for 3 months at 6.7yrs and then when I get back everything will seem normal.

Seriously though, the question is answered within every post on this forum, its one of the fundamental issues that we deal with here and part of PO. All you can do is what most on here are doing now, prepare abit in small steps but prepare for the worse and hope for the best.

:-)

But if its a defo, then after doing all the normal preps, the main issue I would press, is me and my mates would form a mafia type brotherhood - we would rule the street and a given area with a rod of iron - whilst trying to look after everyone who wants to make an effort. The words community, friendship and loyality dont come close to what I'm describing. The problem most people will have is they dont know people like this - whereas the people I grew up with we are family - I'm sure many others here also have this bond with people they grow up with, and still are with. That would be my plan :-)

You mean like it isn't already - 2-3 shootings a week . Everyone and his dog carrying a knife, hoodie gangs on every other street corner, what's to change? I just educate my kids in street smarts and hope they do O.K.

My daughter has a friend from a lovely rural area, recently they went into town shopping, my daughter advised her to take better care of her purse, an idea she poo -pooed. She was pickpocketed within the hour.

Maybe growing up with a few street smarts isn't so bad.

Well, it would take the guess work out of life wouldn't it?!

Think it would suite me more than the indecision I feel now. Great, I can get on with life for 7 years (or 2556.75 days) knowing that everything was ok. No need to plan or worry 'cause its fine 'til 22 October 2014 then everything turns to crapadoodle doo, party over, time to go home and be lucky to eat a bowl of gruel, be stabbed and battered, have your house re-possessed, suffer from raging tooth pain with no dentist, loose your shoes and walk bare foot in the snow and rain, etc etc etc.
Energy in - rubbish out
