How will oil depletion affect the way we live? What will the economic impact be? How will agriculture change? Will we thrive or merely survive?

Just joined

Post by macsporan »

My name is Macsporan and I am an Australian of Scottish descent.

I have just joined so I thought I'd introduce myself.

I learned of PO earlier this year and have been posting with the US site peakoil.com.

I learned much but the place is sadly infested wit Doomers who are all about total catastrophe and people eating each other which (pardon the pun) is not to my taste.

It is also infested with Survivalists, whose chief ambition is to hole up in the hills and shoot anyone who approaches them. At least one of these is a certifiable lunatic.

Most of the others a decent enough people, but you know what Yanks are like.

I have decided to return to the Mother Country via this website for a more mannerly and more informed viewpoint focussing on Europe in particular and Eurasia in general.

I hope I can contribute usefully to this site and to get to know you all.

Cheers,

Mac

Wellcome. You will find a different climate her. Not so intensive as on PO, but if you post something well crafted, you usually get a couple of matching answers, although it can take a week or two. A bit elitistic, but nice!

There is also an Aussie list - the Yahoo group ROEOZ - that may be of interest Macsporan.

I'm an ex-pat living in Melbourne and I do enjoy the more laid back atmosphere of powerswitch over the no-holds-barred peakoil.com :-)

As one person once said comparing this to peakoil.com it is allotments, not guns!

Thanks to all.

Yes, Americans are such loud, blustering and quarrelsome people. I'm sometimes convinced that come PO they'll all shoot each other and leave a nice empty continent for the rest of us to settle.

A special hello to GD, who guided me out of Mordor to this Lothlorien. :D

Since you might be interested in the workings of my strange mind I'll start a little thread now, full of such wit and wisdom as I can muster.

Thanks all for your warm and kindly welcome. :D

I agree with your comments about PO.com. While there are some very insightful discussions, I was shocked at how racist some of the posters are. Also like you say, there are many who think the answer is to build a stash of AK47's and see off anyone who approaches.

I'm sure they are in the minority but it is scary knowing there are people like that out there!

I gave up surfing & posting there; the signal/noise ratio is terrible!

God Save America

Which these days has to come barked as an order from the unholy Christian right who rule there. Nice to read this typically British exchange with Macsporan, and a relief to read everybody feels more or less the same about the Americans on those sites. Has anybody read Heinberg's books? He is the rare exception: an enlightened American (almost an oxymoron) however, he just can't avoid his own culture. The world has for too long been listening to the United States as though it were the world's leader. American's themselves behave and think as though they were the only nation on earth, and the only sensible people in existence. With this coming crash, for God's sake, let's not listen to the Americans and let's not do what they think is the right thing to do. On forums such as energyresource they are positively Nazi-like in their xenophobia and attitude towards saving 'the world. Which for them, is actually The United States of America

G'day the noo,

DO you wear your underpants upside down under your kilt...or not, as the case may be?
