You want something like this: 120 liters in polythene. Look around industries, farms and car washes.Pippa wrote:Bandidoz wrote:Hi Pippa
What are you using for buckets for the C.T.?
Ha, ha,
Just been out to get the buckets! Thought that I'd find plenty, no problem. Went down to the school kitchen but the biggest one they had was 10 litres , then tried the butchers, both pubs and the garage, no luck . Have tried ringing our building merchant to see if they have anything in 40 litre approx containers but no!!!
Where else can I look for a freebie, ideas anyone?
Why bother?

To be honest you wouldn't want anything much bigger than 10 litres; 10 litres of sh*t will weigh well over 10kg.
The best suggestion I've seen so far is to use homebrew fermenting buckets. Most buckets I see in the shops don't have a lid and carry handle.
(33 litre fermenting bucket)

I have 10 litre buckets but the humanure book recommends you use 5 gallon buckets as a 10 litre bucket will be filled by one person in a week.Bandidoz wrote:To be honest you wouldn't want anything much bigger than 10 litres; 10 litres of sh*t will weigh well over 10kg.

Course, my next problem is where to put my produce?
Possibly use a Green Johanna?

Or as suggested, get a good 3-section pile on the go (NO PUN INTENDED).
PS: Note the fermenting bucket shown is 33 litres.

Funny you should mention getting a link from ItsNotEasyBeingGreen. I think many there who visit the DarkGreenRoom a getting a good intro to peak oil, and I often put links in to this site. I am also giving a talk on Peak Oil in their tent at the BigGreenGathering this year. I will be making up some fact sheets/fliers to hand out and will make sure that it has mention of PowerSwitch on.

Nice one, SunnyJim. I think there's scope for considerable overlap between the communities.
Pippa, I would take my hat off to you if I were wearing one...
I think we're a long way from the CT, but in part that's because we're now on the cusp of 'Do we move? Do we extend?' for the next year or so. (My mum-in-law died recently, we are dealing with the probate, at some point in the future we will be in a position to make one more finalmove to where we want to stay, with plenty space, or else extend and eco-fit here. Not currently worrying too hard about it as we have the estate to deal with first.) Though I can see setting up a shed and bucket on teh lottie would be handy... it's OK for the blokes, and my five year old can get away with it, but some of us have to carefully time our visits to the lottie!
And Pippa, thanks you for the welcome back, too. Mwa!

Curiosity and hedonism will do for me. Life is for enjoying now. If you spend all your time worrying about the future, you'll miss out on life completely.Andy Hunt wrote:After reading all the recent 'doomer' posts and articles, I can't help thinking, 'well, if we are that stuffed, then why bother at all?'
Possibly some doomers are masochists and in some perverse fashion enjoy their angst. Otherwise they might as well top themselves now and cut short the suffering.
For my sins I am one of the moderators over on INEBG, so I can suggest it to admin if you like.SunnyJim wrote:Funny you should mention getting a link from ItsNotEasyBeingGreen. Are we talking about linking the forums, or just the main page?

I'm a mod over there too.
Dick doesn't have anything to do with the forums. You'd need to get in contact with Brigit. She's the driving force behind the forum.
If I was you I'd wait until mid August, i.e. after my talk at the BGG. I will be stressing how important it is to take PO into consideration when looking at the issue of climate change. Hopefully they will see that PO is a green issue and not just something that is 'going to happen' regardless.
As I see it if we don't take PO into consideration then just as the climate change initiative start to work then PO will hit (if it hasn't already) and people will start burning anything and everything. A bit like day 3 of the Glastonbury festival. All the wood has gone so the punters start burning waxy cups, bin bags, tents, sleeping bags etc etc. You can hardly breath down there by Sunday night.
