55 pound a week is a pretty penny.

I am surprised more of the UK has not gone into the moonshine business or similar. I am guessing the youth of today is more into spliffs and vapes.

Homebrew is booming in the UK. COVID lockdowns were a huge stimulus and now economics is probably the main driver.

Argentina is locked in an economic collapse that could see the far-right return to power under Javier Milei, a rock-singing former sex coach who has threatened to abolish the central bank.

Annual inflation in Argentina is at 113 per cent, its highest in more than 30 years. It has pushed 40 per cent of the population into poverty as soaring prices outstrip wages.

The crisis escalated last week when the central bank raised interest rates to 118 per cent from 97 per cent to halt a sell-off in government bonds and the Argentine peso, which hit a record low against the dollar.

Inflation forced officials to devalue the peso by 18 per cent on Monday, which some economists expect to fuel inflation further, possibly sending it to 150 per cent.

Why do people shop at Waitrose?

My mother in Law, (92) and quite a snob, reckons it is a total rip off
for people who think they are better than everybody else. She, on
the other hand, knows she is better than anybody else and is quite
happy slumming it at Aldi!

My only other option is Morrisons, and at the best of times they open 2 tills. It's also quite hard to get out of the place without getting chelped at by some old bag member of staff. Waitrose is basically a nicer environment, by a very long way.

I'm lucky - choice of all the major ones reasonably nearby...
Waitrose would be bottom of my list due to prices....

ALDI/Lidl probably keep their prices lower overall - Morrisons, ASDA & Tesco for yellow stickers, if you get your timings right...
Sainsburys better if you want something more than just 'basic'....
Not everyone has the time to shop around.

I find Aldi fresh food in Australia does not last well. The main two supermarkets (equivalent of Sainsburys and Tesco) have quite nice food and there is a warehouse style superstore named Costco that has some good food in it and their fresh food seems to last ages. Must be irradiated food.
