UN says we are "wildly off track" on climate change.

Global efforts to tackle climate change are wildly off track, says the UN, as new data shows that warming gases are accumulating faster than at any time in human existence.

Current national plans to limit carbon emissions would barely cut pollution by 2030, the UN analysis shows, leaving efforts to keep warming under 1.5C this century in tatters.
We must deal with reality or it will deal with us.

I agree. What is needed in my view is drastic cuts in fossil fuel use. Not trading or offsetting, or exporting the fuel used but actually using a lot less.
A good start could be made by doubling the price of petrol and diesel, and subjecting air transport fuel to taxation.

None of which is going to happen. I think the relevance of this story is that there is a limit to how long the powers that be can go on pretending we can significantly limit climate change. Where can the description go after "wildly off track"? Only to "wildly off track and with no hope of getting back on track", at which point it is game over BAU.
We must deal with reality or it will deal with us.
