Suddenly and without any public knowledge of ill health, at a conference overseas. Believed to be a heart attack.

He was an effective politician in calling for Scottish independence, and his sudden death does in my view end Scottish independence as a major political force.

The resignation of the Scottish PM was considered by many to be a major setback, and this news is ANOTHER major setback, which together with the depletion of North sea oil, and the fragmenting of the independence movement into the SNP and the new Alba, is the end of serious calls for an independent Scotland.

Apparently the RAF refused to fly his body back to the UK. He's getting flown back on a private jet

Alex Salmond RIP made the other subsequent Scottish leaders look good which I thought would have been quite difficult.

Given he didn't want to be part of the UK it is not surprising the RAF didn't want to bring him home. What kind of plane do you think would have been appropriate as a flying hearse?
