Slovak pm shot

Post by Ralphw2 »

Populist prime minister, who has taken country closer to Russia, has been shot and seriously injured by a 71 yo ex security guard.

He was hit by 3 or 5 bullets and spent many hours in surgery, but is said to be now stable. The gunman was arrested.

I expect a strong crackdown on independent media and new security laws . The pm was already trying to take direct control of the state broadcasting authority.

Obviously the work of the CIA and/or extreme right wing terrorists.
And russia needs to send troops in order to ensure peace.

Seems like he's no longer in a critical condition. Nothing new about such politically motivated violence, happens from left, right, nationalists, internationalists, state sponsored and lone wolves.

Luckily the EU is already on the case and we can sleep safe in our beds!

“The European Commission said it’s "actively monitoring" the spread of fake news about Wednesday’s shooting of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and warned it can slap Big Tech platforms with fines for failing to tackle disinformation.”

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/ ... on-attempt

We used to be proud of our free press.

“What is [a] free press? When we say a country has a free press, we mean that its news outlets and other publications, even individual citizens, have the right to communicate information without influence or fear of retribution from the state or other powerful entities or individuals.”

https://www.liberties.eu/en/stories/free-press/43809

We used to treat the electorate as adults.

Now we’re reduced to having anything that doesn’t fit the current Overton Window censored as ‘disinformation’.

George Orwell would shudder to see his Ministry of Truth made manifest.

I came across a copy of the Daily Mirror from the 1950s some years ago. I was surprised at how articulate, informative and world focused it was. I would compare it to one of our 'broadsheets' today, except none of the current broadsheets have the politically neutral tone of reporting as that paper did.

Part of the Russian narrative to destabilise the West is the questioning of the independence of the western press, as DefaultOptions is doing, as if the press in russia is a paragon of virtue! Yes, there is widespread "ownership" of the western press by pressure groups but there is still a wide spread of ownership and a middle course can be threaded through the hype. In russia everything is definitely controlled by the government or its agencies.

Is the Western press more reliable? If questioned, yes.

Is the russian press more reliable? Yes, of course! You can rely on it to parrot the russian government line in whatever it says. You cannot find any middle ground in the russian press because a middle ground is not allowed in the completely controlled environment that the russian press operates in.
